This lesson lasts only few minutes. It is about training players' mind.


THE MYSTERY OF REPETITION IN TRAINING


Repetion of a particular stroke for consistency makes a big difference between recrational (club) players and the proffesionals.


Repetition does not mean just standing in one position hitting over and over again, but developing a nimble style from a number of different patterns, drills and play.


Anytime the pros are on the court for training,any particular shots that were discovered during game to be a problem has to be worked on over, over, over, over, over and over again. I have watched many of these on tour and with top pro coaches on DVD and i realised as a top high performance pro coach too, i realised and believe that repetition means a lot in developing players to play at the high performance level.

 

I always do this for my players both the top juniors, seniors and recreational players and it pays off. Before a tournament that my junior players attended last week in a part of the country, i make sure that we work on different strokes from different angles on the court and they hit average of 200 shots on daily basis.(By the way, this does not count serves, volleys or overheads, just groundstrokes)

 

Did i hear you shout "whao, its a lot? Whao, it's boring ? No ! No! No! Not at all, it's not boring nor too much. These shots were taken from different angles with different footworks. The dynamism of the training makes it interesting; and they keep asking for more !

 

The players enjoyed all the repetition training as I challenged them with cones to hit and various groundstroke repetition patterns. The repetion in the drills all enhance the body's natural learning process toward developing a feel with spontaneous, instinctive strokes.

 

Guess what? One of them - Joseph Imeh (also known as Unos) who is just 13 years old registered for Under 16 of the junior and he 'whacked them all to the final and even demolished the runners up on 6/0, 6/1. Is it not superlatively interesting ?

 

I have some younger girls in my team - Nancy (10 years) and Venus (9years) that i have started this with too, you will be surprise how amazing their shots are sounding with good improvement on their conditioning. Please i will advice you watch out for them too !

 

Do you have to hit this many balls to improve? Not necessarily. It is the principle of the process that counts. Whether you hit 300 balls or 7,000 balls per week, this type of repetition foundation is what you need for your game to grow.

 

That is the power of repetition in drills !

 

1. It improves your conditioning

 

2. It improves your foot work

 

3. It improves your shot selection on the court

 

4. It improves your reflex

 

5. It improves your confidence

 

6. It improves your OVERALL GAME STANDARD !


Anytime you are on the court with your coach or hitting partner, try to repeat a particular shot over and over again, give yourself a target of balls and the spot on the court to place it, you will discover the fun and development of drills of repetition and with time you'll begin to feel some new sensations in your strokes. As a recreational player, it even helps your cardio to the maximum level ! All my recreational clients can testify to this, testify to the high level of improvement on their conditioning and game standard ! They keep catching fun while on the court with me with good result on their health


Why are the pros so different ? Because they repeatedly play and work on their weak shots, stlyes over , over, over and over again.


The rule is just do it, just do it and just do it; then you will discover that you will soon be in control of your game anytime you play.

I love this world "Het luie zweet e ruit zweten" This is a Dutch word which i picked from my client and it means 'the lazy sweat out the lazy sweat' This really interest me because it is what we really need to keep healthy. What it means is that even if you are doing nothing, you still try to sweat out the sweat in you while you are doing what you like doing for a pleasure.
